The Ultimate Guide to Packing a Diaper Bag: From Diapers to Distractions

My Newborn Essentials:

  • Diapers: Pack enough diapers for the duration of your outing, plus a few extra for good measure. Newborns go through many diapers, so it’s better to be safe than sorry!
  • Wipes: Choose gentle wipes that are safe for your baby’s delicate skin.
  • Diaper rash cream: Even the most diligent diaper changes can lead to occasional diaper rash. Be prepared with a travel-sized tube of diaper rash cream.
  • Changing pad: A portable changing pad is a must-have for diaper changes on the go. Look for one that’s easy to clean and waterproof.
  • Burp cloths: You’ll go through a lot of burp cloths in the early days. Pack at least three or four, and don’t be afraid to use them for other messes, too!
  • Bottles and formula (if formula-feeding): If you’re formula-feeding, pack pre-measured formula on a formula dispenser. And a stainless steel water bottle to pour your Infant Water in for your baby bottles.
  • Extra clothes: Blowouts happen! Pack an extra outfit (or two) for your baby, just in case.
  • Hat and mittens: Keep your baby warm and cozy with a hat and mittens, especially in cold weather.
  • Pacifier: If your baby uses a pacifier, pack a few extras in case one gets lost or dirty.
  • Infant toys: A few small, age-appropriate toys can keep your baby entertained while you’re out and about.
  • Teether’s and rattles: Teething babies love to suck on anything they can get their hands on. Pack a variety of safe teethers to keep them happy.
  • First-aid kit: Be prepared for minor scrapes and bumps with a small first-aid kit. Always carry Infant Tylenol and Gripe Water.
  • Ziplock bags: These are handy for storing dirty diapers, wet clothes, or anything else that might need to be contained.

General Tips:

  • Pack light: You don’t need to bring everything on every outing. Choose the essentials based on your destination and how long you’ll be gone.
  • Organize your bag: Use pouches, organizers, or compartments to keep your bag tidy and prevent frantic rummaging when you need something in a hurry.
  • Clean your bag regularly: Diaper bags can get germy quickly. Wipe down the inside and out regularly with a disinfectant wipe.
  • Most importantly, relax and have fun! Being a parent is an adventure, and your diaper bag is your trusty sidekick. With a little planning and preparation, you can be confident that you’re ready for anything.

Bonus Tip: Get a comfortable and stylish diaper bag that you love to carry. You’ll be using it a lot, so make sure you enjoy using it!
